The task today was a mix of clearance and butterfly encouragement.

In the morning we were clearing along the exterior fence line with saws and slashers, some on the road side and some of us on the inside. It was mostly elder and nettles so a good swipe with the slasher soon fixed them.

Luckily we were not clearing the whole length as there is around four miles of boundary !

In the afternoon we visited a secret butterfly area created by accident. The removal of top soil has created an ideal area for wild flowers and various species of butterfly. The head warden, Simon, has decided to keep this area mowed and removed some more top soil to see how it goes.

Later we were moving large stones with the use of the tractor and willpower in order to create a landing and warming area for butterflies near the newly planted wood. As Simon drove the tractor I was forced to follow driving the Land Rover (poor luck to those in the back!).
