Today we were expecting to do some stone steps, but plans were changed and we ended up clearing drains along a very well used footpath at Abney village. The path has drainage pipes running under it, removing excess moisture from above the path to below it, eventually into a stream at the bottom of the hill. There were also some open drains that had collapsed in on themselves which needed clearing out. The drains were generally hidden by thick sodden grass and stones and were blocked up by silt and stones. We located the ends of each pipe, cleared it and the drainage route and then covered them again to prevent damage and make the area safe again. One feature of the day was the sludge and mud that is always present on such tasks, very gloopy!! |
